Almost every contractor who calls us says the same thing: "I need more leads." After 5,000+ home service businesses since 2013, we can tell you that is almost never the real problem. The real problem is what happens to the leads they already get. More leads poured into a leaky bucket just means paying more to lose more.
⚡ QUICK SUMMARY
You do not need more leads. You need better leads, handled better . Two moves fix it: run every single lead through the exact same system , and qualify leads with 2-3 questions that route good buyers and bad fits to different pages. Then only teach Facebook about the good ones, so the ads bring you more of exactly those.
More Leads vs Better Leads: The Comparison Nobody Runs
Picture two contractors. Both get 40 leads a month. Contractor A wants 80. Contractor B wants to know which 15 of his 40 are worth chasing, and makes sure every one of those gets a call in five minutes, a text if they miss it, and a follow-up sequence if they go quiet.
Contractor A doubles his ad spend. His crew now half-answers 80 inquiries instead of half-answering 40. His cost went up, his close rate went down, and his best leads still slipped away because nobody treated them differently than the tire kickers.
Contractor B books more jobs than A while spending half as much. Not because his ads were smarter. Because his handling was.

Fix 1: Every Single Lead Gets the Exact Same System
Keith Carpenter, our founder, puts it plainly: you have to properly handle every single lead that comes in, with a system. The exact same steps, every single time.
Not "when the office is not slammed." Not "when it looks like a good one." Every lead: answered fast, logged with name, phone, and email, followed up automatically if they do not book, and never marked dead until the system says so. Speed is most of the battle. The contractor who responds first usually wins the job, and missed calls are the most expensive silence in home services.
If your handling depends on who picked up the phone and what mood they were in, you do not have a lead problem. You have a system problem, and buying more leads makes it more expensive.
Fix 2: Qualify and Segment at the Front Door
The second move is knowing exactly who is coming through the door. Ask two or three questions that segment your buyer. Are you the homeowner? Is this a repair or a replacement? When do you want the work done?
Then route people to different landing pages based on their answers. A homeowner who wants a full replacement this month lands on your booking page. A renter looking for the cheapest patch job lands on a different page. Same form, two very different destinations.
Now you know who is a good lead and who is not before anyone picks up a phone. Your crew spends their energy on the 15 that matter instead of splitting it evenly across all 40.
The Pixel Secret: Teach Facebook Who Your Good Customers Are
Here is the part almost nobody does, and it is where this gets powerful. If you are running ads on Facebook, those two landing pages should not be treated the same.
"We want to send the pixel data back to Facebook when somebody chooses the option that makes them a really good customer, because then Facebook will go and find us more good customers like that." - Keith Carpenter
The Facebook pixel is how the ad platform learns who to show your ads to next. Every "conversion" it records is you telling Facebook: find me more people like this one. So if unqualified leads land on a page that fires the pixel, you are literally training Facebook to bring you more bad leads. You are paying for that education.
The fix is simple. The good-buyer page fires the pixel. The bad-fit page does not. Now every signal you send back to Facebook says "more like this good one," and the machine goes and finds them. Same budget, better leads, compounding every month. This is the same reason advertising without tracking is just expensive hoping: the data you feed the machine decides what the machine brings back.
💡 Pro Tip
This works beyond Facebook. Google's bidding systems learn from your conversion data the same way. Whatever you count as a conversion is what the platform hunts for. Count everything, and it hunts for anything.
What This Looks Like in Practice
1 Write down your lead process
What happens in the first 5 minutes, the first hour, the first day, the first week? If you cannot write it down, it is not a system.
2 Add 2-3 qualifying questions to every form
Owner or renter. Repair or replace. This month or someday. Three answers tell you who you are talking to.
3 Split the destinations
Good-fit answers go to a booking page with the pixel. Poor-fit answers go to a helpful page without it.
4 Only then think about volume
Once every lead is handled the same way and the pixel only learns from good buyers, more budget actually buys more customers. Here is what each channel really costs when you are ready.
The Bottom Line
"I need more leads" is usually "I am wasting the leads I have" wearing a nicer shirt. Handle every single lead with the exact same system. Qualify and segment at the front door with two or three questions. Send the pixel data back only when somebody looks like a really good customer, so the ad platforms go find you more of them. Do those things and the leads you already get start turning into jobs, and every dollar you spend on ads after that works twice as hard.
