Google Search Console Now Tracks Your Social Posts
Keith Carpenter • August 6, 2026

Search Console platform properties let you connect your Instagram, TikTok, X, and YouTube accounts to Google Search Console and see how your social and video posts perform on Google Search, Discover, and Google News. The feature launched July 7, 2026 and became globally available to everyone on July 29, 2026. You can now see the exact search terms that lead people to your posts, with no website required.

⚡ QUICK SUMMARY

Google Search Console now tracks your social and video content , not just your website. Connect Instagram, TikTok, X, or YouTube as a platform property and see the clicks, impressions, and search queries your posts earn on Google Search. It went live for everyone on July 29, 2026 (Google Search Central), and it is free.

For years, small business owners posted on social media and hoped it did something. You could see likes. You could not see whether Google Search was quietly sending people to your posts. That guessing game just ended, and most of your competitors have no idea.

What Are Search Console Platform Properties?

Platform properties are a new Search Console property type that reports how your social and video posts perform on Google Search, Discover, and Google News. Google announced the feature on July 7, 2026 and confirmed on July 29, 2026 that platform properties are globally available to everyone (Google Search Central Blog, 2026).

Before this, Search Console only worked for website owners with a domain or URL prefix property. Now any business with an Instagram, TikTok, X, or YouTube account can open a Search Console account and get real performance data on that content, even with no website at all. Each account you connect becomes its own property, so four platforms means four platform properties and your data stays separate and clean.

What Data Do Platform Properties Show You?

Platform properties give you a Performance report and an Insights report for each connected account: clicks, impressions, click-through rate, and the actual search queries people typed before finding your posts on Google Search.

🔍

Search queries

The exact search terms that lead people to your Instagram, TikTok, X, and YouTube content.

📈

Performance report

Clicks, impressions, and CTR for each post, tracked over time like website search data.

💡

Insights report

A high level overview: your top performing posts and recent traffic trends, in plain language.

The default date range for the Insights page and the Performance report is 28 days, and comparison mode lets you compare periods to spot recent traffic trends across your social and video platforms. Native platform analytics tell you what happened inside the app. Platform properties tell you what Google Search did with your content outside the app. That second number is the one almost nobody has seen before.

How Do You Set Up a Platform Property in Search Console?

You add a platform property the same way you add a website: open Google Search Console, go to the verification page or click the property selector drop down, and choose Add property. The whole setup takes a few minutes per account.

1 Open Search Console

Sign in and click the property selector dropdown in the top left, then choose Add property.

2 Pick your platform

Select Instagram, TikTok, X, or YouTube from the list of supported platforms, then sign in to that account and authorize the connection.

3 Verify and wait for data

Follow the onscreen verification steps, then click Go to property. Repeat for each of your platform accounts. Every account is its own property, so four accounts means four properties.

💡 Pro Tip

Add your YouTube channel first. Video shows up in Google Search results more than any other social format, so it usually sends the most traffic and has the most search data waiting for you on day one.

Why Does This Matter for a Local Business?

It matters because your social posts are search results now, and platform properties finally let you prove which ones bring in customers. When a homeowner googles "how much does a water heater cost," the answer that shows up might be your YouTube video or your Instagram post, not your website.

This confirms something we have been telling contractors all year: Google is pulling more answers from more places, and businesses that publish helpful content win visibility everywhere. It is the same reason YouTube Shorts now show up in local searches and why motivated buyers still read every word you publish.

Here is the practical play for a service business:

  • Find your winners. The performance data shows which posts earn clicks from Google Search. Make more content like that.
  • Steal your own keywords. The search queries report is a free keyword list written by your actual customers, showing how people discover you. Those queries belong in your website pages and every blog post too.
  • Connect the dots. If specific posts or videos pull search traffic, put it on the matching service page. Your local SEO and your social content should feed each other.

The best part: this is free, first-party data straight from Google. No tool subscription, no estimates, no guessing.

What Should You Do This Week?

Spend ten minutes connecting your accounts as platform properties, then check the search profile for each one in a month. Open Search Console, add each social account as a platform property, and let it collect data. Even if you barely post on the same platform every week, you will finally see whether Google Search is already showing your content to local customers. Think of it as social SEO with a free analysis tool attached.

And if the report comes back empty, that is an answer too. It means your business is invisible in a place your competitors are starting to show up. That is fixable, and it is exactly the kind of gap we find every day in near me searches.

Search Console Platform Properties: Quick FAQ

Do platform properties work without your own website?

Yes. Platform properties are separate from website properties, so site owners and businesses with no site at all can both use them. If you never verified a domain property because you had nothing to verify, this new property type finally opens Search Console to you.

Which platforms do Search Console platform properties support?

Four platforms are supported at launch: Instagram, TikTok, X, and YouTube. Google published the full list of supported platforms in its Search Central announcement of global availability, and each connected account reports its social and video performance as its own platform property.

How is this different from your website's search performance?

Your website property shows how your web pages perform on Google Search. Platform properties show how your social and video content performs, in the same familiar reports. Together they give you the complete picture of your search performance and video content performance: pages, posts, and videos side by side, one search profile at a time.

How long until you see data?

Data collection starts once ownership is verified, and reports typically fill in within a few days. Give it a month before judging trends, since the default reporting window is 28 days.
