Google Is Killing the LSA Dashboard. Here's What Every Local Business Needs to Do Before August.
Keith Carpenter • July 21, 2026

⚡ QUICK SUMMARY

Google is moving Local Services Ads into Performance Max starting August 2026. The standalone LSA dashboard is going away. Your historical performance data won't transfer . If you run LSAs for plumbing, HVAC, electrical, or any local service, you need to act now.

If your business runs Local Services Ads, you need to read this today. Google just announced the biggest change to LSAs since they launched. And it's happening fast.

Starting in August 2026, Google is folding Local Services Ads into the main Google Ads platform. The old LSA dashboard? Gone. Your new home is a special version of Performance Max built for pay-per-lead campaigns.

Here's why this matters. If you don't prepare, you could lose years of performance data. And your ads might look and feel different once the switch flips.

Let me break this down so you know exactly what's changing and what to do about it.

What's Actually Changing

Right now, Local Services Ads live in their own separate dashboard. You manage your budget, leads, and reviews in one place. It's simple. It works.

Google is replacing all of that with a new campaign type inside Google Ads called Performance Max for pay-per-lead goals .

GOING AWAY

Old LSA

Standalone dashboard, simple controls, separate from Google Ads

REPLACING IT

PMax

Inside Google Ads, more tools, more complexity, same pay-per-lead model

The good news? You still pay per lead - not per click. Your ads still show up on Google Search and Google Maps, in the same spots. The core model isn't changing.

The bad news? Everything around it is changing. And there are some real land mines.

The Three Biggest Risks

📊

Historical Data Lost

Your old LSA performance reports won't transfer. Years of data - gone. Export everything now.

🔧

New Bidding System

Target CPA replaces the old bidding mode. You'll need to set new targets inside Google Ads.

🏷️

Badge Changes

The BBB badge option is gone. Google wants you to use six alternative callouts instead.

The historical data loss is the biggest issue. Once your account migrates, you can't go back and pull old reports from the LSA dashboard. Year-over-year comparisons? Gone. Benchmarks you've been tracking? Gone. If you don't export now, that data disappears forever.

Who Gets Hit First

Google is rolling this out in phases. The first wave starts in August 2026 and includes select U.S. home and storefront service businesses:

🔧

Plumbing & HVAC

First in line for the August migration wave

Electrical & Appliance Repair

Included in the first migration group

🏠

Cleaning & Lawn Care

House cleaning and landscaping in wave one

🪲

Roofing, Pest Control & Moving

Also in the first group, more categories through 2027

Everyone else? Google says they'll move remaining accounts through 2027. But don't wait. Prepare now, no matter when your turn comes.

What to Do Right Now

Here's your prep checklist. Do this before August. Seriously.

1 Export All Your LSA Data Today

Download every report you can from the LSA dashboard. Lead history, performance reports, cost-per-lead trends, monthly summaries. Save them as spreadsheets. This data will not exist once you migrate.

2 Set Up a Google Ads Account (If You Don't Have One)

Your LSAs are moving to Google Ads. If you've never used Google Ads before, create an account now. Link it to your Google Business Profile. Get familiar with the interface before you're forced to learn it under pressure.

3 Know Your Numbers

Write down your current cost per lead, monthly budget, and lead volume. You'll need these when you set up Target CPA bidding in Performance Max. Without these numbers, you're guessing - and Google's AI will spend your money for you.

4 Update Your Google Business Profile

The new PMax campaigns pull from your Google Business Profile data. Make sure your hours, services, service area, and photos are all current. Bad GBP data means bad ad performance.

5 Prepare Your Callouts

The BBB badge is going away. Google recommends at least six callouts for your ads - things like "24/7 Emergency Service," "Licensed & Insured," "Free Estimates," or "Same-Day Appointments." Write these now.

💡 Pro Tip

Your lead history does transfer to the new system. So your past leads and disputes carry over. It's only the performance reporting and analytics that get wiped. That makes Step 1 - exporting your data - the most important thing you can do today.

The Silver Lining

Look, change is never fun. But there's an upside here.

Performance Max gives you access to better ad management tools than the old LSA dashboard ever had. You get smarter bidding, better audience targeting, and the ability to run your lead ads alongside your other Google Ads campaigns in one place.

For businesses that already use Google Ads for search or display campaigns, this is actually simpler. Everything's in one spot now.

And the pay-per-lead model stays the same. You only pay when someone actually contacts you. That's still the best deal in local advertising.

What Happens If You Do Nothing

If you ignore this? Google will migrate your account for you. On their timeline. With default settings.

That means:

  • You lose your historical data forever
  • Google's AI picks your bidding targets (probably too high)
  • Your callouts might not match what makes your business special
  • You'll be learning a new interface while your ads are running - and spending your money

Don't do that to yourself.

Since 2013, I've worked with over five thousand local service businesses on their ads and online visibility. Every time Google makes a big change like this, the businesses that prepare early come out ahead. The ones who wait? They scramble and overspend.

The Bottom Line

Google isn't asking for your opinion on this. It's happening. The LSA dashboard is going away. Performance Max is the future for local lead generation.

But you have time - if you use it. Export your data. Learn the new system. Set your own targets before Google sets them for you.

And if you don't want to deal with all this? That's exactly what we do at SpeedMobi. We manage ads for local service businesses every single day. We'll handle the migration so you don't have to think about it.
