About the Agency
Shadow & Stone was founded by former FBI Special Agent Marcus Stone after 25 years in federal law enforcement. What started as a one-man operation in a cramped office above a Chinese restaurant has grown into one of the most respected private investigation firms on the East Coast.

How confidential is your service?
Completely. All communications are privileged and encrypted. We never discuss active cases, and our files are stored in secure, off-site facilities. After case closure, records are maintained per legal requirements, then destroyed. Your privacy is our reputation.
What are your fees?
We operate on a retainer plus hourly basis. Initial consultations are free and confidential. Surveillance starts at $125/hour with a minimum 4-hour engagement. Complex investigations are quoted individually after assessment. We provide detailed invoices and never bill for time we don't work.
Is what you do legal?
Yes. All our investigators are licensed by the state and operate strictly within legal boundaries. We do not trespass, wiretap, hack, or engage in any illegal surveillance methods. Evidence obtained illegally is worthless in court—we get results that hold up.
How long do investigations take?
It depends on the case complexity. Simple background checks take 3-5 business days. Surveillance cases typically run 1-3 weeks. Missing persons and complex investigations can take months. We'll give you an honest timeline estimate during your initial consultation.
What if you don't find anything?
Sometimes the absence of evidence is the answer—it can mean your suspicions were unfounded. You still pay for time worked, but we don't pad hours when a case goes cold. We'll be upfront about when further investigation isn't likely to yield results.
